Government Affairs Coordinator
Summary: Under the supervision of the Senior Director, and supporting the SVP, the Government Affairs Coordinator will play a key role in the execution of AGC of California’s comprehensive advocacy strategy. The Government Affairs Coordinator will also be responsible for a variety of administrative support functions, management of external relationships and internal communications channels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: included but not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Performs detailed administrative support and scheduling duties related to the activities of the Senior Director and SVP, including but not limited to answering and screening incoming calls, managing calendar of appointments and travel, completing expense reports, travel plans, itineraries and agendas; and compiling documents for travel-related meetings.
- Attends and represents AGC at Advocacy functions, industry business meetings, and networking events.
- Carry a basic understanding of political and agency structures as it relates to local, state and federal governments.
- Review media outlets and capture infrastructure related stories in a daily news roundup.
- Monitor local planning agency meetings and report out on relevant information to the government affairs team.
- Provides back-up event/program coordination and administrative support for all Advocacy programs as necessary and/or assigned.
- Reviews public policy being proposed or conducted by local agencies. Maintain a working knowledge of how public policy is created and shaped at the local, state, and federal level.
- Assists with the oversight and participation in multiple working groups and coalitions
- Develops briefing materials and reports including ordinance summaries, talking points, and article content.
- Assists Senior Director and SVP with administrative support- scheduling meetings with AGC members, as well as elected and administrative officials.
- Attends hearings, webinars, and other meetings as needed, take notes, and provides comprehensive summaries.
- Assists in drafting testimony, statements for the record, and comments for communications to agency officials.
- Under the direction of the Senior Director, manages coordination for meetings with state and local government agencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred or 2-3 years’ experience related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A current CA driver’s license and proof of auto insurance are required.
