Celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May
Happy Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month! Did you know that there were between 10 to 15 thousand Chinese immigrants employed to build the Transcontinental Railroad in the early 1860s? This multi-state, multi-year project connected the West Coast to the East Coast transforming the US Economy and much more.
The Chinese workforce’s contribution to our infrastructure is legendary, but was not told for many years; they even were deliberately excluded from the photograph taken during the ceremony, which connected the final rails in 1869, as seen in the photo.
