Density of Soils/The Nuclear Gauge Part 2
In this 90-minute lesson, we build on the concepts learned in Part 1 and review taking density tests in the field. Some of the questions we answer are:
In this 90-minute lesson, we build on the concepts learned in Part 1 and review taking density tests in the field. Some of the questions we answer are:
What type of density interferences can take place? Moisture interference?
What equipment is needed for adequate density testing?
How often should we test, and why do we standardize the gauge?
How do we use the equipment properly to take a proper test?
Finishing off the lesson, we work through some examples explaining how to calculate compaction from wet density, along with understanding why compaction testing may produce failing results in the field in the first place and how to handle various scenarios with the contractor.
