Francois Jacobs

Francois Jacobs was born and raised in South Africa and immigrated to United States 20 years ago. As a young emigrant he found employment in the construction industry (the only industry that was willing to hire and sponsor him for his green card). Francois enjoyed a 12 year career in construction starting out working as a painter and later transitioned into the construction sector as an estimator, project manager and general manager for a National Construction company. Francois realized the power of education in construction and obtained his bachelor, masters and Ph.D. in Construction Management from Colorado State University.

In 2010, Francois was hired by the College of Engineering at California Baptist University in Riverside to start a four year Construction Management degree program in support of a pervasive need for qualified CM workers in the Inland Empire and industry at large. The CM program at California Baptist University is proud to share the following program highlights with you since their inception 5 years ago.

The University approved a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management Program with 4 students declared in the program during its first year. Since then, 7 students graduated with a degree in Construction Management with a 100% placement rate. The program developed a Minor in Construction Management for Civil Engineering and Architecture students – with a current enrollment of 10 students from these degree programs. The CM program established an AGC student chapter and competed in Reno Nevada with the financial support of the Riverside/ San Bernardino AGC chapter. The student chapter has aligned itself with HomeAid and constructed a total of 5 doghouse projects to raise money for the homeless in Riverside. The CM program had the complete privilege to Co-Sponsor this year’s AGC Inland Empire Career Awareness Day with the California AGC and Riverside/San Bernardino chapters. Lastly, the program received National accreditation status from the American Council of Construction Education (ACCE) in July 2015.

The “Construction Education Friend Award” is therefore shared with many individuals and industry supporters who continuously help contour and support the program to meet the future needs of our industry.
