INDIVIDUAL SAFETY EFFORT OF A SUPERINTENDENT
Ruben Sauceda, Superintendent for Shimmick Construction Company, was recognized for his safety efforts with the “Individual Safety Effort of a Superintendent” safety award from AGC of California.
Sauceda has worked in the industry for more than two decades in field supervision of large, complex construction projects, and as part of the Shimmick team since 2008. Most recently, he has been serving as Structures Superintendent / Safety Manager for the Caltrans 710 project. Notable projects prior to that for Shimmick included the $142 million San Vicente Dam Raise project for the San Diego County Water Authority; the $189 million Robert B. Diemer Oxidation Retrofit project for Metropolitan Water District of Southern California; and the $200 million Skinner Water Treatment Plant Expansion Project, among many others.
In nominating him for the award, Shimmick President Paul Cocotis stated “Ruben’s impact at SCCI has been profound. We have seen a substantial drop in our incident and XMOD rates since 2008 when Ruben joined the SCCI management team, even while the size, complexity, and number of our projects have significantly increased. Industry leaders have recognized our success, honoring SCCI with numerous safety awards, many of which were for high-hazard projects under Ruben’s leadership. Yet even with this success, Ruben has remained steadfast in his dedication to preventing incidents.”
