Monte Bridgewater, Safety Director,Hensel Phelps, is the AGC/Harry Eckstein Safety Professional of the Year.
Named in honor of Guy F. Atkinson Company’s former safety director, Harry Eckstein, the prestigious award reflects the safety knowledge and experience, the quality and effectiveness of the award winner’s company safety program, as well as the leadership quality and performance displayed by the individual.
Bridgewater has worked for Hensel Phelps for more than eight years, and during that time has proven to be a team player who helped improve safety in the construction industry, as well as his own company. He teaches OSHA 10-hour construction outreach training to colleges in the area including California State University – Northridge, as well as San Jose Taller, a non-profit organization that helps train troubled youth construction skills for entry into the job market. He has been active in AGC of California’s Safety and Health Council, where he served as Vice Chair in 2014, as well as the American Society of Safety Engineers, among other organizations. He is dedicated to self-improvement, and obtained his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Construction Health and Safety Technician® (CHST) professional safety designations, while working full time.
According to Hensel Phelps Vice President Cuyler McGinley, who nominated Bridgewater, “Monte is always willing to help and does an outstanding job at mentoring our people. He strives daily to improve worker safety and helps us protect our most valuable resource, our people.”
