Pandemic Relief and Recovery Funding; Training Opportunities

Government Affairs Update

Engage with Congressional Members on Transportation Funding:
You’re invited to engage with congressional leaders in a virtual event hosted by the Transportation Construction Coalition. This facilitated dialogue will address the status of current pandemic relief and recovery efforts, infrastructure legislation in congress, as well as the status of reauthorization of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, which expires on September 30.

This opportunity is open to AGC members, who can register here.

Date: Thursday, May 21 from 9:15 – 11 a.m. PDT
Confirmed Participants (more to be announced):

  • Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Senate Environment & Public Works Committee
  • Ranking Member Tom Carper (D-Del.), Senate Environment & Public Works Committee
  • Chairman Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee

Federal Infrastructure Funding Decisions in Negotiation:
As anticipated, the House passed the $3 trillion Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act (HEROES) Act on Friday. Negotiations will now ensue between the House and Senate leadership as they work to reconcile stimulus funding to drive infrastructure jobs and the continued support for individuals and organizations impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic response.

AGC Continues PPP Advocacy:
While AGC secured new Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) guidance for the industry, we are continuing to advocate to make the legislation more construction friendly. Current guidance continues to fall short of providing certainty in several areas including a company’s current access to capital or credit, and its impact on PPP loan eligibility and forgiveness. In a letter to the Small Business Association, AGC requested clearer guidance and increased flexibility for the construction industry.

View the Latest City and County Ordinance Changes:
Today, Governor Newsom announced relaxed criteria for counties looking to reopen their economy faster than the state guidelines. Under the new framework, counties must show stable hospitalization rates and fall within limits for new reported cases. As many county-specific orders are set to expire over the coming weeks, we will continue to update our county-by-county tracker with changes that impact the industry.
