AGC of California Announces New Members of Southern California Labor Relations Team

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –  The Associated General Contractors of California (AGC) is pleased to announce the addition of Mandy Powers, Director of Labor Relations, Southern California, and Roger Uy, Labor Contracts & Regulatory Manager, Southern California, to the Association’s robust Labor Relations team

“Mandy and Roger bring tremendous skill to AGC,” said Chief Executive Officer Peter Tateishi. “Labor relations activities and maintaining healthy working relationships with our union partners are vital to our signatory members, our association, and our industry as a whole. I’m excited to see how their combined experience will provide immediate and long-lasting benefits to our members.”

As Director of Labor Relations in Southern California, Powers is a fundamental member of management within AGC. In her role, she is responsible for proactive labor relations advocacy, providing support for the management of contract administration at the highest level, supporting members with grievance management and advocacy, helping to facilitate strong and collaborative relationships with union partners, and overall advocacy for union construction and union contractors.

Powers joins AGC from Walsh Construction, where she most recently served as the Project Compliance Manager for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor project. During her tenure at Walsh, she was responsible for project labor relations including the managing dispatch of their entire self-perform workforce of upwards of 500 trades workers, managing the dispute resolution and grievance process, cultivating relationships with the local Business Agents, administering the Project Labor Agreement, and even leading subcontractor audits.

Also joining AGC’s Southern California Labor Relations Team is Roger Uy, Labor Contracts & Regulatory Manager. Reporting to Powers, he is primarily responsible for anticipating and identifying labor issues, responding to members’ labor relations needs, and supporting proactive engagement between members and union partners. Uy is also responsible for recognizing regulatory issues and opportunities, and researching and writing regulatory policy on industry issues to advocate on behalf of the construction industry.

Uy is a graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law and most recently worked as a paralegal for a law firm in Beverly Hills. Prior to that, he was a tax consultant with a major consulting firm working with large clients in the manufacturing industry from across the country. His research and writing background will be an asset to the Labor Relations and Government Relations teams, as well as the entire organization.

“With the addition of Mandy and Roger to the team, our members can expect the highest quality of labor relations support in Southern California,” said Brendan Carter, Associate Vice President of Labor Relations. “They were the perfect fit and bring the right mix industry and professional experience to round out our strengthened statewide labor relations operation, especially during such a critical time for our state and the industry.”
