30th Annual Award Winners Announced

SACRAMENTO— The Associated General Contractors of California (AGC) Annual Conference last week at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa attracted more than 450 attendees to Indian Wells, CA for a week of networking, education, and honoring industry members with a variety of awards.

The Annual Conference spotlight on AGC’s Award Programs recognized several companies and individuals. The winners and finalists of these annual awards programs represent the companies and individuals who build California’s premier construction projects.

2017 Constructor Award Winners:

  • Community Service
    • Unger Construction Company for Sophie's Place in Sacramento

  • Excellence in Project Management
    • Projects Over $10 Million – Hensel Phelps for the Kaiser Permanente San Diego Central Medical Center in San Diego

  • Meeting the Challenge of the Difficult Job
    • Projects $10 Million or Below – Shimmick Construction Company, Inc. for the Quint Street Bridge Replacement in San Francisco
    • Builder Classification – Turner Construction Company for the Golden One Center in Sacramento
    • Heavy Engineering Classification – Myers & Sons Construction, LP for the LAX Second Level Roadway in Los Angeles
    • Specialty Contractor $10 Million or Below – Royal Electric Company for Folsom Dam's Auxiliary Spillway Control Structure in Folsom
    • Specialty Contractor Over $10 Million – Shimmick Construction Company, Inc. for MUNI's Blue Light Emergency Phone Replacement in San Francisco

  • Excellence in Partnering
    • Flatiron West, Inc. for Willits Bypass in Willits

Among those honored at this year’s conference were four influential industry leaders who received a 2017 Achievement Award:   Denise Dutra,  Director of Business Development for the Dutra Group; Dennis "Chip" Sterndahl, President of Sterndahl Enterprises, Inc.; Eileen Diepenbrock, Partner at Diepenbrock Elkin Gleason LLP; and Paul Weber, AGC Student Chapter Faculty Advisor at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
 
Earlier in the week, the 2017 Building Futures Award Winners: Griffith Company; Royal Electric Company; and California State University, Chico were all recognized for their outstanding contributions to support the AGC Construction Education Foundation programs and services.
 
The winners of the 2017 Construction Safety Excellence Awards were announced at a special luncheon on Friday, October 13th to recognize those who excel at safety performance. Awards were presented in multiple occupational categories, organized by number of work hours covered and work completed the previous year. Individual Safety Awards went to Steve Schaefer, Superintendent at Myers & Sons Construction, LP; and Christopher Morgan, Safety Director at Griffith Company was named AGC’s Safety Professional of the Year.
